FAIRFIELD, CT — A New Haven man faces 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges that he raped and robbed a woman near the Fairfield train station in 2016, according to the Connecticut Post. Michael Fontaine, who was 48 at the time of his arrest in December of 2016, was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, first-degree robbery, third-degree assault and second-degree larceny.

Fontaine, who is scheduled to be sentenced in April, pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual assault and first-degree robbery as the case was heading to trial, according to the Post. Fontaine has an extensive criminal history and had been released from the Osborn Correctional Institute in Somers just 11 days before the attack in Fairfield on Dec. 17, 2016, the Post previously reported.

Fairfield Police responded to the area of 600 Reef Road at about 10:20 p.m. on Dec. 17 on the report of a victim who said she had just been sexually assaulted and robbed at knifepoint. The victim told police that she was walking on Reef Road from the train station when she heard heavy footsteps approaching from behind, right before she was attacked, police said at the time of the arrest.
