Independent distributor Alchemy has acquired U.S. rights to Bernard Rose’s modern-day “Frankenstein,” starring Xavier Samuel (“Twilight”), Carrie-Anne Moss, Tony Todd and Danny Huston.
The film won the Golden Raven award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival. “Frankenstein” is set in Los Angeles and told from the perspective of the monster, who’s been left for dead by a husband-and-wife team of eccentric scientists.
Producers are Gabriela Bacher for Summerstorm, Heidi Jo Markel for Eclectic Pictures, Jennifer Holliday Morrison for Bad Badger, and Film House Germany’s Christian Angermayer and Klemens Hallmann. Avi Lerner is exec producing, and Nu Image is handling international sales.
Alchemy specializes in independent distribution and owns a catalog of 665 titles. It rebranded itself late last year, changing its name from Millennium Entertainment to Alchemy. It recently acquired worldwide rights to director Mitch Dickman’s marijuana documentary “Rolling Papers” following its premiere at SXSW and picked up Antoine Bardou-Jacquet’s action-comedy “Moonwalkers,” starring Ron Perlman, Rupert Grint and Robert Sheehan.
