Driver airlifted to hospital after crash in southern St. Joseph County

WHITE PIGEON, MI -- A driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in southern St. Joseph County Tuesday morning.

Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of US-131 and US-12 at about 4 a.m., according to a news release. The crash occurred when a westbound vehicle, driven by Kevin L. Groff, of Burr Oak, was turning south onto US-131 and struck an eastbound vehicle.

The driver of the eastbound vehicle, Thomas Laphan, 50, of White Pigeon, was airlifted to a Kalamazoo hospital by Air Care, said Deputy Pete VandenBrink.

Deputies say alcohol wasn't a factor, and both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Police ask anyone with information about the crash to contact VandenBrink at 269-467-9045 ext. 325.
