China coffee brand opens first flagship cafe

The first of a planned multicity chain of Chinese gourmet coffee shops will open in Shanghai this week.

DTS8 Coffee describes itself as Shanghai city’s largest gourmet coffee roaster, sourcing beans from farmers in Brazil, Colombia, Jamaica, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea.

Now it has adopted one of its roasted coffee brands – Don Manuel – as the name of a chain of cafes to cash in on the Chinese population’s fast-growing taste for coffee.

Café de la Don Manuel will open for business on October 22 on the corner of 1 Henan Nan Lu and 150 East Jing Ling Rd, Shanghai, in the busy riverfront Bund precinct. The 100 per cent Colombian coffee, imported and roasted by DTS8’s master roaster at its roasting facility in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, will be exclusively sold in the café.

“The location of this flagship café is readily accessible to the targeted, Shanghai coffee aficionados,” said Alex Liang, chairman of DTS8 Coffee. More ‘Don Manuel’ cafes are being planned for Shanghai and other cities in the coming months.”

DTS8 Coffee Company roasts, markets and wholesales the DTS8 Premium, Single Origin Premium, Don Manuel and Private Label brands in Shanghai and others areas of China. Its packaged coffee is sold through restaurants, coffee shops and offices.
