In this edition of Pet of the Week, we were introduced to Zebra, a 4 year Retriever/Great Dane mix. Lee Chambers, Manager of Media & Public Relations at Dakin Humane Society, shared more about Zebra and about other happenings at Dakin.

Name:  Zebra

Location:  Springfield

Breed:  Retriever/Great Dane

Gender: Male

Age:  4 years

Background

A big Yankee welcome to Zebra here…he’s a Texan who just arrived via our Dixie Dog program!  Zebra is a black and white Great Dane/Labrador Retriever mix with a goofy personality.  He loves to chew on toys, have belly rubs, and lay in the sun.  This guy is friendly with other big dogs, but he can’t share a home with a small dog or any cats…he will think they are prey.  In a perfect world, he could have you all to himself!  Zebra comes when called, and though he is still working on his manners, he’s very trainable.  Come meet this gentleman at Dakin’s Springfield Adoption & Education Center.

Free Feral Spay Day Clinic – The Last Wednesday of July and August at our Springfield Adoption & Education Center

Recently Dakin launched a once-a-month free clinic for spay/neuter surgeries for feral cats.  These clinics are for people who humanely trap feral (or homeless) cats, bring them to Dakin for spay/neuter surgery, then return them to their outdoor colonies, which is known as TNR (trap/neuter/return).

If you are trapping feral cats in your neighborhood for spay/neuter surgeries, Dakin can help you by offering these free surgeries.  If you’d like to help homeless cats by learning TNR, visit our website to get started (https://www.dakinhumane.org/surgery-for-feral-cats.html) and bring those feral kitties to these free clinics.  You must register in advance online, and we’re taking bookings for our July and August clinics:
