Leeds recommends: Refreshment stops for cyclists

This week, we asked the cycling community of Leeds for their recommendations for the best cafes and pubs to stop off to re-fuel at while out for a ride in the Yorkshire countryside.

Nicola Storey. Bolton Abbey cafe.

Mike Unwin. The Dales Bike Centre in Fremington. Stunning views of the hills while you eat and a good range of soup and sandwiches from local suppliers. Also has a great shop attached.

Jane Lowe. Prologue in Harrogate is a good gathering place for cyclists with massive TVs showing races from all over the world live.

Anthony Merrion. The Penny Garth Cafe in Hawes was a traditional cyclists’ haunt before the sport really took off. It’s always welcomed Dales riders and does good bacon sandwiches.

Tom Riggs. Ye Olde Naked Man in Settle is a quirky cycling cafe with a friendly atmosphere. It’s a popular stop-off for riders doing the coast-to-coast route.

Alison Jennings. The White Swan is a pub in Thornton-le-Clay which has rebranded itself as a cycling stop. Great breakfasts and also offers free water to cyclists.

Michael Morten. The Curious Table in Easingwold is bike-friendly and offers bike parking and lots of space for large groups.

Andy Peterson. Hebden Bridge has two cycle-friendly spots I like to visit - Park Life Cafe at Calder Holmes Park and Coffee Station at the railway station. Both are really welcoming places.

Oliver Wills. I like the Dalesman Cafe in Gargrave, near Skipton. Thriving cycling community and a really nice location.

Lydia O’Meara. If we go into the Dales then our favourite stop is Suncatchers in Masham. It’s really picturesque and the decor inside is interesting. Plenty of bike space and you’ll see lots of other riders there.

Simon Drinkwater. Got to be Dales Bike Centre, it’s cycle heaven. Love browsing the shop and they run rides from there too. Cafe is known for its fine cake selection and brilliant views.

Tim Swain. Yorks of Thirsk, centrally located in the market place so you feel in the centre of things. They are always keen to welcome cyclists.

Chris Gigglesworth. An alternative choice is the Bear Healthfood Co-operative in Todmorden. It focuses on vegetarian and vegan food but still offers lots of choice for re-fuelling pitstops.

Jessica Hill. If you’re cycling in the Bradford area, it’s worth stopping at Cullingworth where the Cold Spring Mill tearooms are. The cafe is inside a lovely old mill and it’s a unique spot.

Dominic Compston. Settle Down Cafe in Settle. Good cakes and close to a lot of popular routes, so plenty of cycling traffic stopping by.

Matt Nowell. No trip to Swaledale is complete without visiting the Dales Bike Centre. It has everything a cyclist could want and is a real hub for the bike community. Food and drink is really good. Only problem is you end up staying for too long!

Jack Lambley. I would say go to Settle - it has a really good choice of cafes aimed at cyclists.
