After a wild and windy week, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival’s second weekend got underway Friday, April 20, with more sunshine and more cumbia.

We met a couple who got married Thursday in nearby Indian Wells and then took wedding photos on the festival grounds as part of the scenes we captured on the field.

The newlyweds weren’t the only ones partying Thursday — things got started with the Chella event, a concert for the Coachella Valley community that included Coachella artists Los Angeles Azules, Cuco and Helado Negro.

But the big news blowing into Coachella’s encore at the Empire Polo Club was that access to camping was delayed by a day due to high winds. Most festivalgoers made the best of it, even creating a new festival of sorts dubbed Walmartchella.

The Do Lab, one of Coachella’s beloved spots, got hit hard by winds earlier in the week, wrecking the stage’s canopy and putting its minders in a race to rebuild it before Weekend 2 began. It was back up and running and the water cannons were flowing and the aerial artists were spinning from the ceiling on Friday.

Among the performers we caught Friday were New Orleans’ Tank and the Bangas, Deorro, Daniel Caesar, The Weeknd and more. Check out the photos.

Ariana Grande was a guest star and performed her new song “No Tears Left to Cry” with Kygo on the main stage Friday night, and Kygo paid tribute to Avicii, the famed DJ and producer and Coachella veteran, who died Friday in Oman.

Fans couldn’t follow along on YouTube this weekend and the Beyhive is among those who are the most upset.

We’ll be back out there again Saturday, and we’ve been documenting the fans in the front row at the various sets.

The weekend is only going to get warmer, so we found seven places to cool off during Weekend 2.
