The couple split up after three years of marriage and Ms Neilson reportedly received a generous financial settlement.

In 2015 Ms Neilson spoke of her friendship with McQueen during an interview with the Daily Mail. She said: "He was my brother, my boyfriend, my soulmate. Most of the time people called me Mrs McQueen. Quite often we were sharing a bed."

Ms Neilson is thought to have been the last person to see the famous designer alive and was left devastated by his death.

Police said her death is not being treated as suspicious.

She is known to have battled with a drug addiction from a young age before becoming sober.
