Nick Foles denies turning down a trade to the Browns: 'It didn't happen'

When an NFL.com report that the Eagles turned down the Browns’ offer of the 35th pick in the 2018 NFL draft in exchange for Nick Foles, many were shocked that Philly would turn down such a valuable pick for a player who will never start for the team again if everything works out the way it hopes.

That same report suggested that Foles told the Eagles he wanted to stay in Philadelphia when the front office ran the trade by him. The Super Bowl MVP says that conversation never took place.

That makes a lot more sense from Foles’ perspective. Why would he turn down a chance to start? Sure, the Browns are the Browns, but the depth chart has been vastly improved to the point where Foles would have a good chance of playing well and parlaying his performance into a long-term deal with another team. As things stand, he’s looking at another year sitting on the bench and by the time he hits free agency, he’ll be on the wrong side of 30.

Meanwhile, wanting to do right by Foles was really the only plausible reason for the Eagles turning down such an enticing offer. By all accounts, the Eagles are excited about third QB Nate Sudfeld and were in need of draft picks after the trade for Wentz back in 2016.

Either the report wasn’t accurate, the Eagles aren’t confident in Wentz’s knee being ready for the start of the season or the team made a big mistake.  But now we know Foles did not turn down the Browns.
