So many rehab assignments, so little time. Pedroia hadn’t played for a few days after the PawSox had been either rained out or playing on wet fields for the better part of a week. It wasn’t a great return to the lineup, but he still found a way to get on base twice. Maddox, meanwhile, looked good in his first rehab assignment of the year, though he’s likely set to stick around in Pawtucket for most of this season, at least to start. Finally, Thornburg had a nice little bounce back after looking pretty rough in his last few outings.

Travis Lakins: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K (57 pitches)

Teddy Stankiewicz: 6.1 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K (89 pitches)

It’s been a strange season for Lakins, who has yet to throw more than three innings in any outing but has put up good numbers in most of them. This start, and his last, actually aren’t all that impressive, but he has the talent to dominate. Five starts into the season, however, it’s fair to wonder where the innings are. Stankiewicz is generally the one to finish these outings off, and he’s been mostly awesome in this role. Offensively, Mars, De La Guerra and Witte all continue their little hot streaks at the plate.

In case you didn’t hear, Cole Brannen was demoted to Lowell prior to this game to get him some time at extended spring training. This is mostly due to the outfielder struggling mightily this season, of course, but there is another benefit in finally getting Cedrola some consistent time at his natural position of center field. He sure seemed happy to be back there as he was the only good performer in this Drive lineup.

Player of the Day: Stankiewicz had a phenomenal piggy-back outing and on most nights he’d probably get this fake award, but Emmanuel De Jesus takes this one. Any time you can allow one or fewer runs with ten strikeouts without walking a guy, you get recognized. This is De Jesus’ second time winning this little award, and while he’s not a high-profile name in this organization he does show these kind of intriguing flashes from time to time.
