Bride’s horror as her ‘fit and healthy’ mum collapsed at her wedding and died the next day

Heartbroken Marcia Holmes, 31, was still in her wedding dress as she watched her mother’s life slip away

A BRIDE has told how her dream wedding turned into a tragic day to remember after her mum suddenly collapsed and died the following day.

Marcia Holmes had only just made her vows when her previously fit and healthy mum Jean became seriously ill at the drinks reception.

Speaking to Mirror Online, Marcia from London described the moment her mum died the next day in hospital while she was by her side, still wearing the wedding dress she was married in.

Marcia, 31, had spent more than a year planning her dream wedding to City worker Nick at the 11th century Berkeley Castle in the Cotswolds.

She said: “The ceremony was the happiest moment in my life, but it happened on what became the saddest day of my life.

“What is keeping me going is that mum had a really good party on her last day and was the happiest I’ve ever seen her.

“After she died I saw messages on her phone that she’d sent friends telling them she was crying tears of joy.”

After collapsing at the drinks reception, Jean was rushed to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

But doctors told Marcia’s distraught dad Les, 59, his wife would never wake up.

As Jean slipped away from him, engineer Les read to Jean the father-of-the-bride speech he never gave.

Under the circumstances, Marcia and Nick had to cancel their honeymoon to Tanzania.

But instead they are gearing up to join 20,000 others in running the 10-mile Simplyhealth Great South Run in Portsmouth on October 22 in memory of Jean.
