Topeka police said they arrested a man and seized a gun after a foot chase late Thursday.

Lt. Manuel Munoz identified the man as Gregory E. Smith, 51.

Munoz said officers became suspicious of Smith and tried to stop him as he rode a bicycle about 9:55 p.m. near S.W. 6th and Lincoln.

Smith ran on foot through yards in that area before being taken into custody, Munoz said.

Shawnee County Jail records indicated Smith was booked in at 1:03 a.m. Friday in connection with an aggravated weapons violation, the criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, carrying a weapon with a barrel less than 18 inches long, interference with a law enforcement officer and riding a bicycle not equipped with a lamp when in use at night.

Smith also was arrested on outstanding Shawnee County warrants charging him with two felony drug crimes, the possession or use of drug paraphernalia and riding a bicycle not equipped with a lamp when in use at night, according to jail records.

Kansas Department of Corrections records show Smith has convictions for burglary and a felony drug crime, both committed in 2014 in Shawnee County.
