Historical items being accepted for museum

Boonville Tourism Director Katie Gibson stands in the Boonville Visitor’s Center portion of the Gingrich Warehouse Building, which is almost complete.

Items that primarily deal with Boonville’s rivers, rails and trails are now being accepted for use in the new museum that will open within a month.

The museum, which has been in the works for several years, is soon to open up as the new tourism and informational center. It will house a gift shop and a museum in the old Gingrich that is located right across from the Katy Depot.

For almost four years the city has been preparing the building for use as a hub for the Depot District that now includes the Katy Bridge, Katy Depot, Gingrich Warehouse building and now the Mitchell Car Museum. With completion of the new lighting that now connects Spring and Morgan Streets with Main Street the final vision of the district is close to realization.

Boonville Tourism Director Katy Gibson is excited about being in the completed warehouse. With only a few things left on the list to do, it will not be long before people will be visiting the building just off the Katy Trail.

Now, Gibson is hoping to start filling the building with Boonville and Boonslick artifacts that tell a story of the area’s rivers, rails and trails – a theme that has been predominant in Boonville tourism for almost two years.
