POTSDAM — A Queensbury man was arrested on a rape charge for allegedly forcing a young woman to have sex in a home in Potsdam last December, police said.
Colin Cunningham, 19, was charged with first-degree rape, a felony, for an alleged forcible rape while he was a student at SUNY Potsdam last winter, according to Potsdam Police. He was acquainted with the woman, and the incident did not happen on the college campus, police said.
He was arraigned in Potsdam Town Court, a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf and he was released.
Cunningham was a freshman at the school at the time of the incident, and is no longer a student there.
Potsdam Police Lt. Michael Ames said additional charges are likely.
First-degree rape is punishable by up to 25 years in state prison.
