A late afternoon fire in a West Cornwall Township home on Thursday caused parts of the building to collapse and triggered a huge response from area fire companies.

One firefighter was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries during the fire, Quentin Fire Chief Stan Singer said.

Crews responded to the fire in the 100 block of Cassadee Court at roughly 5 p.m. Singer said the fire had likely been burning for a while before anyone noticed. A neighbor on Cassadee Court said he saw an ambulance zip by about 10 minutes before he heard the firetruck sirens.

No one was in the building when the fire broke out, Singer said, but the home is occupied.

Firefighters shoot water through the second-floor window of a West Cornwall Township home.

Significant parts of the building in the rear and right side of the house collapsed, Singer said, as did some parts of the building inside.

Singer said he knew the fire was serious as soon as he left his home in Quentin and saw the cloud of smoke. He called in the second alarm before he even got in his car. The fire was so large when crews arrived that Singer said they fought the fire from the outside of the building.

"It's a total loss at this point," he said.

Singer said they didn't know the cause of the fire, but that state police would investigate.
