Georgia Governor speaks at reception in Rossville

ROSSVILLE, Ga. (WDEF) – Georgia Governor Nathan Deal highlighted state achievements in Rossville Thursday.

He and his wife, Sandra, came to The Renaissance Center for the annual Top of Georgia Partners and Investors Reception.

The Republican spoke about many topics including criminal justice reform, education, and how moves have been made to help people get the skills they need for jobs.

Governor Deal talked about how the state’s unemployment rate is low and below 4 percent.

He also acknowledged that his time as Governor is coming to an end.

“These last eight years have probably been in some ways the best years of our life and people like you have helped make it that way,” Governor Deal said.

“I do take comfort in the fact that I think I am leaving our state in a little better position than it was when I came into office, and that’s all I could ever ask for,” Governor Deal said.

Republican nominee Brian Kemp won the governor seat.

The former Georgia Secretary of State will take office in January.
