Monrovia Man Arrested For Child Porn Possession, Distribution

An "extensive investigation" revealed a Frederick County man was trying to sell child pornography online, Maryland State Police said.

MONROVIA, MD — A Frederick County man was arrested for possessing and distributing child pornography, Maryland State Police said.

Joshua David Scalera, 35, of Monrovia was charged with three counts of distribution of child pornography and six counts of possession of child pornography.

Police were tipped off by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The agency's report indicated that an individual was uploading child pornography to a website.

"After an extensive investigation by the Maryland State Police, it was discovered that the suspect, later identified as Scalera, attempted on several different occasions, to develop and host websites to sell child pornography," police said.

Maryland troopers received several more tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children during 2017, which aided the "already complex ongoing investigation."

Evidence ultimately led investigators to Scalera’s residence.A preliminary forensic review of Scalera’s electronic devices revealed multiple child pornography files, police said.

Scalera was arrested at his residence without incident at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. He is being held without bond at the Frederick County Detention Center.
