Three Lou Ferrigno Films Heading to Blu-ray
Posted July 24, 2015 04:29 PM by
British distributors 101 Films will release on Blu-ray three films with Lou Ferrigno: Luigi Cozzi's Hercules (1983) and The Adventures of Hercules II (1985), and Enzo G. Castellari's Sinbad of the Seven Seas (1989). The three releases will be available for purchase on October 26.
In this adaptation of the Greek myth, Hercules (Lou Ferrigno) - a semi-divine being - squares off against King Minos, who is attempting to use science to gain power and take over the world. With the help of a benevolent sorceress, Circe, Hercules tries to save his beloved Cassiopeia from being sacrificed by Minos and struggles against laser-breathing creatures and an evil sorceress. Also starring Sybil Danning, Mirella D'Angelo, William Berger, Ingrid Anderson, Rossana Podestą, and Gianni Garko.
Lou Ferrigno returns as the man with the strength of a hundred in this action-packed sequel that finds the fabled warrior facing his greatest challenge.
The Greek god Zeus has lost his seven mighty thunderbolts, all of which were stolen by jealous Olympians. The world is in disaster. The moon is knocked out of its orbit and is hurtling towards the earth. Urania and her sister Glaucia figure the only way to save the earth is by calling upon the mighty demigod Hercules to return the thunderbolts to Mount Olympus. But each of the thunderbolts are hidden inside of a monster. Also starring Milly Carlucci, Sonia Viviani, Carla Ferrigno, William Berger, Venantino Venantini, and Claudio Cassinelli/
A dazzling adventure of faraway lands and heroic spectacles, this heart-soaring epic follows the brave Sinbad the Sailor (Lou Ferrigno, The Incredible Hulk) in a rousing tale based on Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Thousand-and-Second Tale of Scheherazade".
Sinbad discovers that Jaffar, the evil Vizier to the good Calif of Basra, has placed a spell on Basra, turning its people into animals and enslaving the mind of the Calif. Sinbad sets forth on a journey to retrieve the five sacred gems of Basra that will defeat Jaffar, which Jaffar has dispatched to places of great evil. He must succeed before Jaffars spell saps the will of the Califs daughter Alina, the beloved of one of Sinbads crewmen, and forces her to marry him. Also starring John Steiner, Roland Wybenga, Hal Yamanouchi, Alessandra Martines, and Ennio Girolami.
Awesome! Already got the last 2 on German BDs, but been looking forward to getting the first one. Ditto all the above enthusiasm. These Cozzi films look so great on blu-ray, I've turned from casual fan to super-fan. As a bonus, these are brilliant, crazy cult films you can watch with the children. My 7 yr old loved these, and even he laughed at some of the absurdities.
Daria Nicolodi HATES this movie. Originally shot as a mini-series for TV, it was edited down into a "feature", leaving ol' Daria embarrassed when delivering choice lines like: "I remember Sinbad the Sailor...". You might have guessed that this adaptation of the material isn't one of the classics.
If you wanna impress me, release a 4K release of the The Incredible Hulk TV series. =)
Hmm. Somehow I feel a need for something to be released with Arnold too (yeah, Lou Ferrigno's arch rival). Like Pumping Iron? I'm not sure about his Hercules movie, because it's such a stinker (thanks, Arnold Stang!), even though it's a gem, since he was so big in that movie and because it was his very first.
Saw all of these schlocky films at a second level theatre in Toronto in the 80's. None of these films had good picture quality to begin with. It will be interesting to see how they look on BD when/if they are released in North America.
LOVED the Hercules films! The campiness, the funny stop motion, the strange sound fx, but honestly I am a huge fan of the orchestral score for part 1 and 2. Very underrated music!
Sinbad....i don't like so much.
I own all 3 on DVD already, and unless there are special features here, i likely will have to skip them. But if whoever hasn't seen these before, the Hercules films are pretty fun
