CU Somerset plays inaugural collegiate game

Campbellsville University Somerset freshman Hunter Stevens scored a team-high 16 points in the Tigers' 70-67 loss at Cleveland State Community College on Saturday.

CLEVELAND, TN - Campbellsville University Somerset men's basketball traveled to Cleveland State Community College to begin the first game in program history.

Both teams battled in the first half with neither team gaining a substantial lead. The Tigers managed to get the edge heading into the locker room at half with a 39-37 edge over Cleveland State.

Somerset pushed the offense in at the start of the second half to extend their lead to 10 points. With 12 minutes left in the game, the Tigers' offense hit a scoring drought. Cleveland State took advantage to take the lead with six minutes to play.

Somerset battled and kept the game close. With time running out, the Tigers set up for a tying three pointer. The shot went up, circled the cylinder, and fell to the floor. CU Somerset drops a heartbreaker to Cleveland State 67-70.

Hunter Stevens led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points. Meith Relcow had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Josiah Williams and Alvin Thomas led the Maroon and White in bench scoring with six points each.

CU Somerset looks to bounce back at the Cedarville Classic on Friday, Nov. 16 and Saturday, Nov.17, from Cedarville, OH.
