The embarrassment of being asked his 'current weight' at every family gathering could have made Kuldip’s weight loss journey difficult. But he rather took it as a challenge and despite reaching 143 kilos, he decided to live a fit life. He lost 47 kilos in a time span of 18 months and still targets to reach his perfect body mass index. Here’s what he tells us about his weight loss journey from fat to a healthy life.

Name:
Kuldip Singh Gohil
Occupation:
IT - Software Engineer
Age:
33
Highest weight recorded:
143 kg
Weight lost:
47 kg
Duration:
18 months
Turning point in my life:
When I was in 10th standard, my weight gradually started to increase. I crossed 100 kgs and by the time I started working, I had reached 125 kgs. I felt uncomfortable and even went to doctor for help. He took some tests and identified that I had hypothyroid and cholesterol issues. I started medication for both and also controlled my diet. Due to controlled diet and thyroid medicine, my weight got reduced by 10 kgs in 3 month. But again it increased to 134 kgs.

I continued taking medicine and even tried going to the gym, walking and diet control to lose weight. It all helped me, but temporarily and I reached to 143 kgs (my highest weight recorded).
During that period, I also faced tinnitus (ringing or buzzing in the ears). Eventually, I realised that all these health issues had occurred just because of my excess weight. This was the turning point of my life and I decided to lose weight. I started to watch videos on internet for weight loss and decided a plan, purchased a weighing scale and noted down weight in the calendar. That day I decided to lose 100 gms, every day.

Fitness secrets I unveiled:
Focus, consistency and dedication will always give you effective and positive results.
How do I stay motivated?
I was regularly monitoring my weight on calendar and was setting up target for weight loss I should achieve by the end of a week. When I used to reach my target, I felt good and confident. And I knew that I can do it.
How do you ensure you don't lose focus?
Keeping health issues in my mind, weight loss is the only option. The fear of getting sick and health problems is what never allows me to lose focus.
What's the most difficult part of being overweight?
Health problems, clothes not fitting well, people gossiping about your weight, in marriage functions and family gatherings.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
As per BMI, my weight should be 89 kilos. I want to reach there and need to maintain it for the rest of my life.
