Thursday

Babyface

As the most successful songwriter of the 1990s, Kenneth (Babyface) Edmonds racked up a staggering volume of hits for myriad artists, including Whitney Houston, Madonna, Mary J. Blige, Eric Clapton, Tevin Campbell and — most prolifically — Boyz II Men. In concert, Babyface typically performs his own renditions of many of those songs, alongside selections from his own recording career going back to his days with the group Deele. 8 p.m., Sound Board at MotorCity Casino Hotel, 2901 Grand River, Detroit. 313-237-7711. $65-$85..

Friday

Mark Farner

Except a night of Michigan-brewed Grand Funk classics as former front man Farner heads to Warren with his American Band. 8 p.m., Andiamo Celebrity Showroom, 7096 E. Fourteen Mile, Warren. 586-268-3200. $25-$69.

Marillion

Making its first metro Detroit visit since the early '90s, the English prog-rock outfit arrives on a U.S. tour where the set list has been largely comprised of latter-day material with vocalist Steve Hogarth, including the politically charged songs of 2016's "(Expletive) Everyone and Run (F E A R)." 7 p.m., Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. Fourth, Royal Oak. 248-399-2980. $45-$75.

English rock band Marillion

Friday-Saturday

Excision

The Canadian artist born Jeff Abel emerged as more aggressive dubstep sounds broke big at the turn of the decade. Detroit has remained a major market for him since, and he'll hit the Fillmore for two nights with Liquid Stranger, Dion Timmer and Monxx in support. 8 p.m., the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward, Detroit. 313-961-5450. $39.5-$75.

Saturday

Machine Head

The long-running California metal band arrives in support of its just-released ninth album, "Catharsis." 7 p.m., Majestic Theatre, 4140 Woodward, Detroit. 313-833-9700. $25.

Sunday

Travis Greene

After a decade of recording, this South Carolina gospel singer-songwriter has enjoyed a breakout run the past two years, topping the gospel charts and snagging seven wins at the 2017 Stellar Awards. This Detroit performance is kickoff to a year of touring for Greene, whose hit "You Waited" remains in the Top 10 of Billboard's gospel airplay chart nine months after its release. 7 p.m., Majestic Theatre, 4140 Woodward, Detroit. 313-833-9700. $20.

Wednesday

Charlie Wilson and R. Kelly

Despite the intensified spotlight on celebrity sexual transgressions and continued dogged reporting by longtime Chicago journalist Jim DeRogatis, R. Kelly is bafflingly still managing to evade any serious blowback after years of mounting accusations and legal battles. This LCA show — a co-headlining date with ex-Gap Band singer Charlie Wilson dubbed "A Tale of Two Kings" — comes six months after an R. Kelly show at Chene Park that drew a smattering of protesters. 7:30 p.m., Little Caesars Arena, 2645 Woodward, Detroit. 313-471-6611. $34.50-$194.50.
