Port Orange Family Days headlines weekend of festivals

Families can come together this weekend over carnival rides, music and even a street painting competition.

That's just in Port Orange.

The annual Family Days at Port Orange City Center will join an entertainment schedule that includes the Creekside Music & Arts Festival in Palm Coast, Blocktoberfest in New Smyrna Beach and Harvest Fest in Barberville.

Here are 10 things to do this week:

Port Orange Family Days

The carnival gets underway from 5 to 11 p.m. Friday in Port Orange City Center at City Center Circle. The movie "Hotel Transylvania 2" will play at 8 p.m. at the Kenneth W. Parker Amphitheater, 2001 City Center Circle, Port Orange.

On Saturday, the carnival is 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and a business expo takes place 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A parade is set for 10 a.m., running from The Home Depot parking lot down City Center Parkway before ending at the Lakeside Community Center.

A sidewalk chalk art competition is also set for City Hall plaza on Saturday and Sunday.

The carnival continues Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a 9:30 a.m. worship service will open the event at the amphitheater. The business expo is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The Halifax Veterinary Center Pet Parade is also slated for noon Sunday.

A $25 unlimited rides pass is available for the carnival. For information, go to poctrust.org.

Creekside Music & Arts Festival

Two stages will be filled with live bluegrass, folk and local band music this weekend in Palm Coast.

The 14th annual Creekside Music & Arts Festival is also set to include arts and crafts vendors, a beer garden, a kids' fishing clinic and historic demonstrations.

Set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, the festival will take place at Princess Place Preserve of Flagler County, 2500 Princess Place Road, Palm Coast.

Blocktoberfest

A pet parade is scheduled at the start of a day of art, beer and music in New Smyrna Beach.

Dogs and their owners are set to parade down Canal Street at 10:30 a.m. Saturday during Blocktoberfest. The parade starts at Canal and Orange Streets and goes east.

The Canal Street area will also feature an art stroll from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a gallery walk from 4 to 7 p.m. A craft beer walk is 1 to 7 p.m. and costs $20.

Harvest Fest

Pony rides, sack races, crafts, bounce houses and a petting zoo will be part of the fun this weekend at the Barberville Pioneer Settlement, 1776 Lightfoot Lane, Barberville.

Harvest Fest is 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Admission is $6, but free for kids 2 and younger. For information, go to barbervillefest.com.

The Bruce Rossmeyer Ride for Children

A benefit ride for children living with serious illnesses is set for Sunday.

The police escorted motorcycle ride starts at Destination Daytona, near the Interstate 95 and U.S. 1 interchange near Ormond Beach, and travels to Camp Boggy Creek, 30500 Brantley Branch Road, near Eustis.

Riders can check in at 7 a.m. Sunday with kickstands up at 10 a.m.

A regular rider or passenger costs $50 and a VIP rider or passenger costs $300. For information, go to rideforchildren.com.

Music and Wine in the Gardens

Spanish guitar and wine will take Washington Oaks Gardens State Park, 6400 N. Ocean Shore Blvd., Palm Coast, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Tickets include two glasses of wine as well as light appetizers and are available on eventbrite.com.

Tomoka Fest

Guided hikes, history demonstrations and kids' activities are planned from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday during Tomoka Fest.

The event will take place at Tomoka State Park, 2099 N. Beach St., Ormond Beach.

Admission is $4 for single-occupant vehicles, $5 for vehicles with two to eight people in them and $2 for pedestrians and bicyclists. For information, go to floridastateparks.org.

Model trains

More than 250 tables of dealers will be part of the Florida Railfair Model Train and Railroad Artifact Show and Sale Saturday at the Volusia County Fairgrounds, 3150 E. New York Ave., DeLand.

The show will take place 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $7, but it is free for children younger than 12. For information, go to gserr.com.

'Jekyll & Hyde'

A musical version of Robert Louis Stevenson's story of Dr. Henry Jekyll and alter ego Edward Hyde continues its run at downtown DeLand's Athens Theatre, 124 N. Florida Ave.

Running through Oct. 21, showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays as well as 2:30 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $10 to $28.

DeLand Indie Market

Vintage vendors and artists will fill Artisan Alley, between Georgia and New York Avenues in downtown DeLand, on Sunday.
