My professional life began in the dark basement of the Museum of Cultural History in Los Angeles, where I was cataloguing three-hundred-year-old Guatemalan saint carvings. I quit this fascinating job and moved to Wyoming to work for the U.S. Department of the Interior as a historian and archaeologist. When I finally understood the error of my ways I moved to Wyoming and started writing books. Since then, I've authored or co-authored 54 novels and around 200 non-fiction publications.

I love writing. And buffalo. And hiking the wilds of Wyoming's backcountry.

I'm married (until he comes to his senses) to W. Michael Gear, the novelist and my co-author, and we live at the edge of the Wind River Indian Reservation in the Owl Creek mountains of Wy

We've had books like PEOPLE OF THE SEA that hit us in the middle of archaeological conferences. Other books, like PEOPLE OF THE MOON just popped into our heads while we were walking around archaeological sites. When Glen Rabi, the forest service archaeologist pointed over the edge of the Chimney Rock great house and down the steep slope, he said, "That's where Jeancean found the charred corpses that burned in the great house fire." Well, you've just GOT to write a novel about that!

Hi Sherry,

We're delighted that you are enjoying People of the Songtrail. Our next week, tentatively titled MORNING STAR: ROGUE GODS, is the sequel to People of the Morning Star. It's about a Mayan Lord who journeys to Cahokia bringing a new religion that threatens to tear the Cahokian world apart. We hope you enjoy it, as well!(less)

Nice Review of FOURTH QUADRANT…

HAPPY FEBRUARY!

Wyoming is just starting to see some days in the high 40s. Most of the snow has melted around the house, though the mountains are still white and beautiful.

On the writing front, Mike is working on a screenplay for OUTPOST, his science fiction novel set in the Donovan universe. He’s having a grand time. Writing screenplays is a different talent than novels, so it’s a learning experi

“Life moved, as inconstant and fickle as Wind Baby, frolicking, sleeping, weeping, but never truly still. Never solid or finished. Always like water flowing from one place to the next. Seed and fruit. Rain and drought, everything traveled in a gigantic circle, an eternal process of becoming something new. But we rarely saw it. Raymond White Kathleen,

I've read several of your "People of" books as well as your "Anasazi Mysteries" and thoroughly enjoyed them all. It's been so long since I've read them that I'm going to have to re-read some of them so I can leave decent reviews. Keep up the good work.

I was a cultural anthropology major at Colorado State U back in the seventies and got onto your books after I'd read some Jean Auel. IMHO, yours are better.

My own books are apocalyptic/dystopian and thrillers but I love the sense of mystery yours ignite in my imagination.
