Supernatural season 13 episode 12 preview: Ruth Connell returns as Rowena

Supernatural season 13 episode 12

Is there really much of a reason to spell out why we are excited for Supernatural season 13 episode 12, beyond what we just said in the title? Ruth Connell has become one of the best new additions to the series over the past few years as Rowena, and we’re thrilled to be getting her back. This episode, entitled “Various & Sundry Villains,” is her first credited appearance on the CW series since February of last year. That means that the story will have to make up for lost time and presumably cram in a lot of super-fun story into the hour.

The Supernatural season 13 episode 12 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below offers up some more scoop as to what’s coming, including how Rowena is going to find herself involved.

THE WITCH IS BACK – Dean (Jensen Ackles) falls victim to a couple of witches, sisters Jamie (guest star Jordan Clair Robbins) and Jennie Plum (guest star Elise Gatien), who manage to steal a powerful book of spells from the Winchester brothers. When Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean go after the book, they get help from a powerful and surprising ally when Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell), back from the dead, intervenes to assist them. Amanda Tapping directed the episode written by Steve Yockey (#1312). Original airdate 2/1/2018.

What we do always like with this show is getting to see unusual groups of characters working together, and all signs point to this being the case here. Rowena has long been someone who operates within her own strange/unpredictable agenda, so there could be some surprises in store. We missed having Rowena around, just as we continue to miss Crowley.

Aside from the story of Supernatural season 13 episode 12 itself, we’re also stoked to see Amanda Tapping on board as director. Even though her onscreen arc as Naomi seems to be over, one of the things that Supernatural does a really good job at is finding ways to keep its performers around. This is her second episode as director, and there will be a third coming up later this season.
