Port Sulphur, La. - An man was killed Saturday morning after he was rear-ended on La. 23, according to State Police Troop B spokeswoman Trooper Melissa Matey.

The victim, 48-year-old Alec St. Ann, had slowed his truck to make a turn when he was struck from behind by a Ford Ranger driven by Martin Richard Jr., 28. The impact caused St. Ann's truck to roll on its side and hit a utility pole with the roof of the vehicle. St. Ann was pronounced dead on the scene.

Richard and his passenger were not wearing seat belts. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle, and both sustained minor injuries.

Impairment is not suspected, but toxicology results on Richard and St. Ann are pending.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash, and the accident remains under investigation.
