Mississippi community college worker no longer employed after racist comments on social media

WESSON, Miss. — A Mississippi community college employee no longer has her job after racist remarks on social media.

The Daily Leader of Brookhaven reports that Copiah-Lincoln Community College no longer employs library clerk Dana Lander. College President Jane Hulon won't say if Ladner was fired or resigned.

On Oct. 6, a Facebook user named Dana Wallace-Ladner made racist comments in discussing the Forest Hill High School band's performance in Brookhaven the previous night. The program depicted police officers held at gunpoint and was performed in a town where two officers were shot to death days earlier.

The college says the posts did not reflect its views.

The Jackson school district fired band director Demetri Jones, who is appealing. The Mississippi High School Activities Association upheld sanctions against the band after an appeal.
