I didn’t think my plumber husband would run-off with my grieving best friend

DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN my friend lost her husband, I was happy for mine, a plumber, to help her out. I never thought she’d steal him.

I am 45 and he’s 46. We got married at 21 and have two daughters, now 23 and 21.

I thought our marriage was happy. We had a lovely home and enough money to enjoy a good life.

My friend’s husband died six months ago. She lives close by, so I invited her for meals and my husband did odd jobs around her house.

It never crossed my mind he was messing around.

Then out of the blue he told me he doesn’t love me, that they are in love and must be together.

I now go to sleep and wake up each day knowing he is with her, just yards away.

It is torture and our daughters are devastated.

DEIDRE SAYS: I feel for you – but if you still love him, hang in there. It may turn out to be a temporary infatuation for one or both of them. I’m sure you are very angry, as well as hurt, but hold your head up high and act with steely dignity.

Think of the example you are setting your daughters.

But arm yourself, with good legal advice too. Dignified, yes. Doormat, no.
