Pa. teacher accused of choking student, 12, enters rehab program

teacher suspended

Head teacher Brian J. Fischer, 58, was suspended $86,196-per year job after being charged by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District Police last February.

A junior high head teacher accused of grabbing a 12-year-old student by the neck and choking him for several seconds may be on the road to getting his $86,196-per year job back.

This, after the Citizens Voice reports the suspended teacher, Brian J. Fischer, 58, entered a probationary program for first-time offenders in Luzerne County.

Under the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, Fischer must undergo an anger management assessment and follow all recommendations during an 18-month stint that would then erase the strangulation charge against him, the Citizen Voice reports.

That could clear the way for the suspended head teacher of Solomon-Plains Elementary/Junior High School in Wilkes-Barre to get his job back, the newspaper reported, adding:

Wilkes-Barre Area School District Solicitor Ray Wendolowski told the newspaper Fischer remains suspended, and he wasn’t immediately sure how Fischer’s entrance into the ARD program would affect his job.

“I will be meeting with human resources and the administration and then will give a recommendation to the school board,” Wendolowski was quoted as saying.

School police officers said Fischer grabbed the boy after he confronted Fischer in a non-aggressive way about not being able to attend a school dance because he was suspended from school earlier that day. The boy told police he paid $30, but Fischer would not give him a refund.
