WAXAHACHIE -- A North Texas news photographer, 58-year-old Scott Dorsett, is in critical condition after he was hit by a car as he jogged Wednesday afternoon.

His friends and coworkers at the Waxahachie Daily Light say the support from the community has been overwhelming.

"Writing about someone you know is always a tough thing," said news reporter Andrew Branca. "When you know somebody that close it's hard."

A father of two, Dorsett is fighting for his life from a hospital bed 30 miles away in Dallas.

"Oh, it's definitely still a fight and he needs prayers everyday," said Jennifer Henderson, a coworker at the Waxahachie Dailey Light.

Dorsett has covered news and sports in Waxahachie since 1976.

Last week, his coworkers heard about the accident in the newsroom but didn't know Dorsett was involved. They called him in to take pictures.

"We called him and he didn't pick up so we called him again and he didn't pick up," Branca said. "We texted him and he didn't answer so we kind of thought something was up."

"Something in the back of your mind [was] saying, 'I don't have a good feeling about this,'" he continued.

Since then, Dorsett, a man that thrived behind the scenes, has been the news. His coworkers say the public support has been overwhelming.

The hashtag #prayforscott features tributes from across town.

Cheerleaders and football players held signs at the Friday night football game. They turned the spotlight on the photographer who was usually on the sidelines with his camera in hand.

"It's hard," Henderson said. "I can't imagine him not being here and the hurt and pain that his family is going through."

They hope he'll be back soon but also know he has a fight ahead of him. A fight he won't face alone.
