The Incredible Myron B (Myron Bruce) has been crowned Humorous Calypso Monarch 2012. He took the top prize at Saturday night's Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (Tuco) Humorous Calypso Competition held at the Grand Stand of the Queen's Park Savannah.
The competition, which was held after the Carnival period in an attempt to provide an alternative calypso experience, came to a dynamic end with eight finalists from varying tents vying for the crown. The finalists were Lord Funny, Lady Aeisha, The Mechanic, The Incredible Myron B, Kid Kalaloo, Sugar Aloes, The Mighty Composer and Caston Cupid.
Calypsonians Nicola Francis, who sang Telephone Horrors and Tenisha Weekes who sang Bookbag Dilemma were the opening guest performers. Lord Funny began the competition with his rendition De PP, which got a lukewarm response from the audience.
Similarly Lady Aiesha's performance, unlike the semifinal, did not arouse as much laughter from the audience. However, when the Incredible Myron B performed Baby Roll Over, he left the audience pleased with his story of sleeping with an obese woman who rolled over him while sleeping.
Another notable performance came from The Mighty Composer whose composition Legacy (the story of seeing Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar's legs leaving him bazodee) had the audience in an uproar. The audience was kept entertained by the antics of hosts Tommy Joseph and Damion Melville.
Young guest artiste, Jalanie Wells, opened the second half of the competition with Ah Going To Play Mas. In the second half, memorable performances were put on by Caston Cupid, who imitated the actions of Gypsy, while singing about his wife who loves to Go For Cane and The Mighty Composer who captured the audience with his advice to young women on how to keep their men with waist talent.
But the night belonged to The Incredible Myron B who, for his second performance, wore a dress. He recounted for the audience his experiences with a blind man who mistook Myron B for his wife, after he caught Myron B in his (the blind man's) home.
The results were then announced after guest performances by Henson Wright (the reigning Calypso Monarch of Tobago), who sang Diary of a Mad Man and Jean Sam (Lil Jean) who sang Mock Soca. The results caused uproars of displeasure when Sugar Aloes was announced in third place and Kid Kalaloo was announced in sixth position.
There was, however, thunderous applause when The Incredible Myron B was announced as the winner. Arts and Multiculturalism Minister Winston "Gypsy" Peters was in attendance as well as former minister of Community, Culture and Gender Affairs, Joan Yuille- Williams.
Fellow members of the calypso fraternity such as Sandra des Vignes (Singing Sandra), Gregory Ballantyne (GB) and Franz Lambkin (Delamo) were also present to support their peers.
