Avengers: Endgame crushes all box office records on its way to 'historic' $1billion worldwide opening weekend

Avengers: Endgame is breaking all records in its opening weekend.

The Disney/Marvel film has already raked in $487million at the international box office as of Saturday morning, according to Deadline

The site also said the Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. and Brie Larson-starring superhero ensemble film was on track for a 'mindboggling' industry record of over a billion dollars.

On top of the international amount, the blockbuster has already netted $156.7million at the US box office.

That means the current worldwide total sits at a staggering $643.7million as of Saturday morning. 

That total 'does not include an estimated $82.4M in China on Saturday', which promises to take that country's total beyond the $300million mark.

Avengers: Endgame had already broken a box-office record in North America by becoming the first film to gross $140 million in a single day.

The jaw-dropping sum was made in the 24 hours since the movie opened for preview screenings on Thursday afternoon.

The Disney and Marvel production toppled the previous record set by 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which made $119 million in the same market over the course of a single day, according to Deadline.

Avengers: Endgame opened for general release on Friday morning, but its Thursday previews helped it reach the $140 million mark. 

The sneak peak screenings grossed $60 million alone with cinemas staying open all night to cater for huge demand.

The three-hour film, starring Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johannson and Bradley Cooper, began showing previews from 6pm, but fans were already lining up long before doors opened. 

On social media, moviegoers shared photos of long lines and packed cinemas right across the country.

In some cities, theaters stayed open all night with several cinemas even offering 4.30am screenings on Friday morning.

After arriving at a session in the wee hours, one fan wrote on Twitter: 'This theater is f***ing packed at 3am. This is absolutely insane!'
