According to Variety, the bear-like funnyman is set to star in Observe and Report, which revolves around Ronnie (Rogen), a deluded, self-important head of mall security who becomes embroiled in a turf war against local cops.
The project will be helmed by Jody Hill, whose bawdy comedy The Foot Fist Way impressed Rogen when he saw it at the 2006 Sundance Film festival.
Producer Donald De Line told the trade mag Observe and Report would be in a similar vein. "It will definitely go to the edge," De Line said. "We love (Hill's) sensibility."
The film is not to be confused with Mall Cop, another comedy about shopping enforcement starring Kevin James that will be released in early 2009.
The film will begin shooting once Rogen finishes his current project, Kevin Smith's Zack and Miri Make a Porno in April.
