President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday said polls that show Americans are giving his presidential transition efforts historically low marks are “rigged.”
“The same people who did the phony election polls, and were so wrong, are now doing approval rating polls. They are rigged just like before,” Mr. Trump tweeted.
Several polls released Tuesday put Mr. Trump behind his recent predecessors on how Americans rated their presidential transition efforts between the election and inauguration day.
In a CNN poll, 40 percent said they approve of the way Mr. Trump is handling his presidential transition. In a January 2009 poll, 84 percent said they approved of how President Obama was handling the transition.
President George W. Bush had a 61 percent approval rating on that front in January 2001 and President Clinton had a 67 percent approval rating in December 1992.
In a separate ABC News/Washington Post poll released Tuesday, 40 percent also said they approve of how Mr. Trump has handled the transition into office.
That’s behind Mr. Obama (80 percent), Mr. Bush, (72 percent), and Mr. Clinton (81 percent) heading into office.
The ABC poll also showed Mr. Trump with a 40 percent favorability rating overall, which is behind Mr. Obama’s 79 percent rating and Mr. Bush’s 56 percent rating heading into office.
