Retail roundup: EōS Fitness coming to Santa Ana; Military Mondays land at Kohl’s; Pottery Barn Kids moves at South Coast

The fitness concept, a first for Orange County, says it offers low prices and a host of amenities including a green turf zone and workouts to movies.

EōS Fitness is opening its first Orange County location in Santa Ana, replacing a shuttered LA Fitness near the intersection of 17th Street and N. Tustin Avenue. The EōS concept includes “The Yard,” or green turf that acts as a training area for sled and battle-rope workouts. There’s also something called the MOVEōS Cinema, a theater-like room with a variety of cardio equipment where movies are played during workouts. The Santa Ana EōS Fitness will have 35,000 square feet of space at 1501 N. Tustin Ave. (Courtesy of EōS Fitness)

EōS Fitness is opening its first Orange County location in Santa Ana, replacing a shuttered LA Fitness in the Bentall Center near the intersection of 17th Street and N. Tustin Avenue.

The EōS concept includes “The Yard,” or green turf that acts as a training area for sled and battle-rope workouts. There’s also something called the MOVEōS Cinema, a theater-like room with a variety of cardio equipment where movies are played during workouts.

The company, which boasts affordable membership prices that start at $9.99 monthly, says it’s expanding with some 40 locations in Arizona, California and Nevada. Its website includes a “coming soon” mention for a fitness center on Antonio Parkway in Ladera Ranch. Membership for that site opens later this year.

“We will continue to add new locations throughout Southern California, bringing our accessible fitness model to more and more neighborhoods and communities,” said Rich Drengberg, CEO of EōS Fitness, in a statement.

We asked the company a few questions about the fitness center:

When does it open? EōS Fitness is open for basic workouts starting May 1. Group fitness classes will begin May 13

What is the base rate for joining? Memberships start at $9.99 per month, with no minimum membership required. All memberships are month-to-month.

Are there any additional fees or amenities members can purchase to upgrade their membership?

  • At $9.99 per month, members can access the locker rooms and gym floor, which includes cardio equipment, weights, machines and The Yard (turf functional training area)
  • At $19.99 per month, members can access all of the above, plus unlimited classes, the pool and hot tub
  • At $24.99 per month, members can access all of the above, plus they can bring a friend (the same one or a different one every time) whenever they hit the gym

How many employees on site? ultimately around 50-60 people

What are the hours? Open 24/7

The Santa Ana EōS Fitness will include 35,000 square feet of space at 1501 N. Tustin Ave. The LA Fitness, for those of you keeping track, moved to 17th Street in the same retail strip center as Hobby Lobby and Chipotle, replacing Gold’s Gym.

Also available to members: more than 50 group fitness and cycle classes weekly, a free weight area, an indoor lap pool and hot tub, separate men’s and women’s saunas and a spacious Kids’ Club with a jungle gym, basketball court, and mini movie theater.

Entry-level memberships start at $9.99 monthly with $99 down, according to the website. The company says presale membership specials are available. For more information, go to eosfitness.com or call 714-430-8112 or email gmcsa@eosfitness.com.

Military discounts at Kohl’s

Active, retired and veteran members of the military can get a discount at Kohl’s stores on Mondays, part of a new “Military Mondays” program by the retailer.

The 15% discount is good all year, Kohl’s said in a statement. Customers must show a valid military ID, military dependent ID or veteran ID at the cash register.

“Through Military Mondays, we are proud to strengthen our support of our military families who have made sacrifices to ensure the safety of our communities,” said Doug Arnoldi, Kohl’s vice president, district manager, in the statement.

Kohl’s Cash fans, beware: The military discount can’t be combined with other discounts. Read more about the program at Kohls.com.

New location for PBKids

Pottery Barn at SCP has moved to Level 3 of the Macy’s Home Store wing.

Shoppers at South Coast Plaza’s main retail center will have to take the pedestrian bridge over Bear Street or park under the adjacent wing to shop at the popular kids’ merchandise retailer.

The store is next to CB2, a division of Crate & Barrel, and Garden Show Children’s Events.

Walmart launches $48 Kidbox service

The nation’s largest retailer is teaming up with Kidbox, the 3-year-old online styling service for children, to offer its customers an exclusive, curated style box.

Starting Tuesday, Walmart customers will get access to more than 120 premium children’s brands. The style box will include about five fashion items for $48, about 50% off the suggested retail price of the bundled items. Walmart customers complete a short style quiz for their child on Walmart.com. Kidbox stylists tailor each child’s style preferences, season and where the child lives.

“Our partnership with Kidbox enables us to round out our offering with additional national and premium kids’ brands,” said Denise Incandela, head of fashion at Walmart U.S.’s e-commerce division

The partnership is the latest by Walmart to establish itself as a fashion destination and better play in the increasingly crowded subscription arena. It marks its first subscription service for clothing. In 2014, Walmart launched a quarterly subscription of beauty samples and products. Walmart had tested a short-lived subscription snack service called Goodies.

Kidbox’s popularity comes as more online retailers are seeking to dress children. Stitch Fix, a leading online styling service, launched a children’s version in time for last year’s back-to-school season.
