If True North is your orienting point - your fixed point in a spinning world - one that helps you stay on track, then what is your Truth North for Fitness?

Remember, True North is not negotiable, constant, singular and not affected by factors around you.

For many of my clients, their True North is their daily commitment to physical activity, taking care of themselves before they take care of any other responsibilities, including their job, children or spouse. It may be a new found concept, this ultimate self care regime, that helps them maintain a certain weight, lean muscle mass or energy level, or it may be a long standing ritual that simply is part of who they are; literally the fabric of their being.

Take a moment to think about your True North, Fitness Style. Can you focus on a daily promise to walk 10K a day, or do 20 push ups every night? Can you focus on your stretch program or Pilates/yoga practice daily to help you maintain your flexibility and perspective during difficult times?

Sure, you can get injured, sick or be diagnosed with a disease, but keeping your eye on your True North can help you navigate potential life storms with a compass that helps you stay balanced, strong and centered. Your True North may be something you love to do like dancing, but most likely it's something you may not enjoy but know the results are the sweet rewards like lifting heavy, stretching for 30 minutes straight, or amping up your cardio into your real aerobic range.

Whatever your True North for fitness may be, let it become the homing beacon as you navigate toward a healthy, fit future; you may wake up one day to realize it has moved from a "need to do" to a "thankful I can do" activity.
