Last month, the United Way of the Tanana Valley won an award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

That award is commonly known as 'an Emmy'.

The United Way received the 2017 Northwest Regional Emmy for its 'You Are Needed' campaign video commercial.

Three familiar statuettes of the winged lady holding an atom were dispersed to Executive Director, Bill Wright, former Development Director, JoLee Giuchici (JEE-OO–CHEE), and Producer and Palmer– native, John Conn of Stage 2 Studios.

"John Conn, Stage 2 owner and producer, he is originally from Palmer and the MatSu area, and so he has served on the board of directors for the United Way of the MatSu, has done videos of them. And that is how we got connected with them. He has produced our video for the last two years," explained Giuchici.

Wright said the award is not just a win for the non–profit organization, but for Fairbanks.

"To me, this is a win for Fairbanks, because it shows that our community comes together, and I think that was one of the moving pieces in the video is that we're a community that's coming together during this time to make things better. This is about Fairbanks. Our video is about Fairbanks. While it's the United Way, it really is about us coming together to solve our big community issues."
