Six Westlake High School students earned Honor Roll status in the American Mathematics Competition contest.
One of the students even scored high enough to earn Distinguished Honor Roll status, garnering him an invitation to the American Invitational Mathematics Examination.
Sophomore Kartik Dhinakaran scored in the top 2.5 percent of test takers on the AME 10 exam, and will compete in the AIME.
The competiton is a 25-question, 75-minute multiple choice exam that uses pre-calculus concepts and is meant to spur interest in mathematics and to develop talent through excitement for solving challenging problems in a timed multiple-choice format.
The National Honor Roll cutoff score for the AMC is 100 out of a possible 150 points.
Students who finished in the top 5 percent are sophomores Kartik Dhinakaran, Aswin Bikkani and Peter Slater. Students who finished in the top 5 percent are junior Robert Hoon, and seniors Aakash and Ashwen Ravichandran.
Top students will go on to compete in the United States of America Mathematics Olympiad and possibly earn a spot on the US team for the International Mathematical Olympiad.
