First official poster of Michael Fassbender as Steve Jobs released

The Hollywood actor is pictured as the late technology entrepreneur in a simple black and white poster to promote the movie ahead of its release next month.

Wearing jeans and a high neck top, he appears in pensive mood as the character in Universal's biopic, simply called Steve Jobs and directed by Danny Boyle.

The world has already been treated to its first glimpse of Fassbender as Jobs with a much-anticipated trailer:

But this is the first print advertisement for the film, which is scripted by Aaron Sorkin and also stars Seth Rogen, Kate Winslet and Jeff Daniels.

Featuring the film’s title and a list of cast and crew credits, Fassbender is set against white in a Macintosh-style backdrop.

Jobs founded Apple in 1976, but left the company in 1985, after a disagreement with its board of directors.

Widely regarded as one of the most influential, visionary business leaders of recent years, he died in 2011 at the age of 56 after battling pancreatic cancer.

According to Sorkin, Steve Jobs is structured around three key Apple product launches: the Macintosh in 1984, NeXT in 1988 (the computer company Jobs set up after leaving Apple in 1985), and the iMac in 1998. Around half an hour of film time will be devoted to each story.

Winslet plays Joanna Hoffman, an original member of the Macintosh and NeXT teams, and Rogen plays Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

A previous Jobs biopic, titled Jobs and starring Ashton Kutcher in the lead role, was released in 2013 but was a critical flop.

Steve Jobs is released on October 9.
