Son Allegedly Stabs, Kills Mother In San Juan Capistrano: Cops

A son allegedly stabbed and killed his mother, and critically wounded his father over the weekend in San Juan Capistrano, OC Sheriff's say.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA — A son brutally stabbed his parents outside a San Juan Capistrano home over the weekend, according to authorities. The deadly altercation between family members ended with his mother fatally stabbed and his father, critically injured, Orange County Sheriff's Department has said. The son allegedly attacked both of his parents with a knife outside a home near La Novia and Ortega Highway in San Juan Capistrano.

"Deputies responded to calls from neighbors at approximately 10:30 p.m. that a man with a knife was in the street," OCSD spokeswoman Carrie Braun said. "Deputies arrived to the scene within one minute and located two victims, both with stab wounds, and observed the suspect attempting to flee the scene."

Following a short foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. A knife was recovered at the scene.

The suspect, Yihong Peng, 30, from San Juan Capistrano, was arrested today and booked into Orange County Jail on charges of CPC 187 – Murder and is currently being held on $1 million bail, according to the Orange County District Attorney's office. He was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, April 2.

The suspected attacker's mother, Wei Ping Shen, 59, San Clemente, was pronounced dead at the scene after extensive life-saving efforts by both OCSD deputies and the Orange County Fire Authority. The suspect's father was critically injured and was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

The motive for the incident is part of the ongoing investigation by the Orange County Sheriff's Department homicide investigators.
