It has been a strange start to Oregon’s ski season.

November began with promise and a lot of snow, giving many hope the season would be in full gear by Thanksgiving.

A tropical system of rain brought an end to that hope, as almost 25 inches of snow melted across the Cascade Range.

Now that sunny skies are forecast for this week and weekend, many are wondering which ski areas are open.

Here’s a breakdown.

Mount Bachelor: Oregon’s largest ski area is open daily, with 800 acres and 20 groomed runs open. Snow levels are slim at just 30 inches, but it’s enough to get in some turns.

Mount Hood Meadows: The largest ski area on Mount Hood is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The snow base is 25 inches and as of Tuesday, there were five lifts running.

Timberline Lodge: Four lifts are running at the highest ski area on Mount Hood, which is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mount Hood Skibowl: The most accessible ski area on Mount Hood, in Government Camp, is open for tubing this weekend. Check website for hours. Snow depth is slim at 15 to 17 inches and no ski lifts are yet in operation.

Hoodoo Ski Area: The closest ski area to Salem, on Santiam Pass, doesn’t have quite enough snow to open yet. They have 18 inches in the most recent check but normally require 25 to 30 inches to consider opening.

Willamette Pass: Not open yet, with just 9 inches of snow.
