Robin Roberts' emotional Pat Summitt tribute was a special moment for 'Good Morning America'

Robin Roberts worked as an up-and-coming sportscaster in Tennessee in the 1980s.

Pat Summitt was already an enormous figure in the state by then, of course.

But Roberts and Summitt developed a relationship, one that included Summitt cooking for the future ESPN and now "Good Morning America" star using two ovens. She was the best at everything, right?

Summitt died Tuesday morning, two weeks after her 64th birthday and five years after she told the world she'd be diagnosed with dementia. Everyone that knew her took this the only way any of us could. She was too young, too great, too strong.

All that led to Roberts' segment on "GMA," a beautiful example of newscasting that includes emotion and information, personal and historical.

"Pat Summitt is, and forever will be, the ultimate champion," Roberts closes. And we won't forget her.
