Sister Mary Luke Jones (nee Barbara), a 1966 graduate of Seymour High School and the daughter of the Bill and LaVerne Jones, celebrated her golden jubilee of religious vows at Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beech Grove.

Sister Mary Luke entered the Benedictine community following graduation from high school and professed her first vows in 1968.

She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Indianapolis and a master’s degree in administration from the University of Notre Dame.

Her work has consisted of teaching and administration of a grade school, director of a retreat center and director of development, raising funds for the monastery, retirement home and retreat center owned and operated by the sisters.

Recently, she secured a $1 million grant from the Lilly Endowment for the spiritual renewal of Protestant clergywomen.

Her parents, who were longtime Seymour residents, are deceased, but her siblings, also graduates of Seymour High School, are Mark Jones of Seymour, Margaret Nierman of Columbus and Janet Kavanaugh of Lawrenceville, Illinois.
