Grand Valley State has let go of long-time assistant football coach Jack Ginn.

In a statement posted on its athletic website Tuesday, the Lakers said Ginn, who most recently served as offensive coordinator, would not have his contract renewed.

"I would like to thank Jack for his dedication, leadership and contribution to our program," coach Matt Mitchell said in a statement. "We always have difficult decisions to make because they involve friendships, relationships and families, however, I felt a change was needed in our football program at this time."

The Lakers lost their final two games of the season - to No. 2- ranked Ferris State, 21-16, on Nov. 9 and last Saturday to Wayne State, 31-17 - to finish 8-3 (5-3 in the GLIAC) and out of the NCAA Division II playoffs for the second time in three seasons.

Ginn, who completed his 11th season on staff and second as the OC, has also served as GVSU’s associate head coach as well as coaching wide receivers and quarterbacks. He came to Grand Valley from North Carolina Wesleyan.
