'Bourne 5' Update: Matt Damon Is Back, But Will Never Cross Path With Jeremy Renner's Character, Ever!

Matt Damon last appeared in "The Bourne Ultimatum" eight years ago and then later passed on the "Bourne" franchise to Jeremy Renner. Many believed that he is gone for good. Now, the highly acclaimed Bourne actor is making a comeback to bring Jason Bourne to the big screen once again.

Damon recently revealed his decision to come back to the "Bourne" franchise, while promoting his new movie "The Martian". The actor said he is now ready to return and bring Jason Bourne back to life and to the big screen.

"Elysium" actor Damon had reportedly been talking with the movie director, Paul Greengrass, throughout the past couple years on the subject of more movies to make, but the two were not able to find the right story that is worth telling. The actor explained that the "Bourne" movies were about the Bush administration and they wanted to wait until they found another compelling story before continuing with the franchise.

With the recent happenings involving the NSA whistleblower, Edward Snowden, along with the current havoc in Greece, Greenglass and Damon were once again inspired to put together another movie.

Damon implicitly revealed "Bourne 5's" main focus, saying, "Without giving too much of it away, it's Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Edward Snowden world," Buzzfeed reported.  The new "Bourne" movie which is yet to be given a title, is said to revolve around the issues of politics and national security.

"Bourne 5" movie is scheduled to commence production next week, it will be filmed in various locations in and outside the U.S. The first filming will be in Greece and will finish off in Las Vegas.

Meanwhile, Damon's return does not point to Renner's departure from the movie. Frank Marshall, executive producer, assured that Renner will very much still be a part of the "Bourne" franchise, although Cross and Bourne will unlikely cross paths in the movie because, as Marshall explained, "They're on separate tracks," Collider revealed.

"Bourne 5" is set for a theater release on July 29 next year.
