Man, 37, charged with involuntary manslaughter after letting boy, 9, behind wheel of his SUV before it crashed at 100mph, killing 14-year-old passenger

A man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter after a 14-year-old boy died in a horrific car crash while a nine-year-old child was behind the wheel driving at 100mph.

Mitchell Morris, 37, from O'Fallen, Missouri, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. 

He was the only adult in the car when he let his nine-year-old step-brother get behind the wheel of a 2000 Ford Expedition on County Road T3 about one mile north of Oxly.

Tragically, the boy hit an embankment and the car overturned which led to everyone inside being thrown out. 

According to police, the nine-year-old said the man had vodka and was teaching him how to drive at 100 miles per hour.

The boy told a state trooper: 'Mitch was driving and had a vodka bottle between his legs. Mitch told me he was smarter and going to show me how to drive 100 miles per hour.' 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that Damian A. Winters, 14, of Oxly, Missouri died after the vehicle he was riding in ran off the road and overturned around 3:50 p.m. on September 6.

Winters was pronounced dead at the scene.

The state trooper found Morris covered in blood with several cuts on his legs and face. 

His eyes were glassy and bloodshot and the trooper conducted a field sobriety test which he failed and then arrested him.

Morris was taken to a Doniphan hospital with moderate injuries. He was later arrested and charged, according to KFVS.

Morris said: 'I was trying to teach the boy how to drive, I was not driving the vehicle.'

The nine-year-old boy only had minor injuries. 

No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, according to The Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Morris was due in court on September 8 at 9 a.m. at the Ripley County Courthouse.
