‘The Airport Kid’

Cash Troyer, left, sits in the cockpit of a Cessna Citation with Francis DeRoest, chief pilot for Les Schwab, at the Ontario Airport in 2018. A memorial grass landing strip at the airport is safe for now, and included in a new mowing contract. However, due to the cost of maintaining it, city officials want to see it as a source of revenue in the future.

ONTARIO — Anybody who visited the Ontario Airport, especially when school wasn’t in session, likely met Tom Frazier’s grandson.

Cash Troyer was a fixture there since 2013. He moved to Payette with his mother when he was about 5, the year after his grandpa settled in as a fixed-base operator at the airport. He and his mother, Toiresa Frazier, came to the area from La Grande to help Tom after he had open heart surgery.
