INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (September 11, 2015) – Sunrise Yoga on the Glick Peace Walk is the perfect setting to think about peace and recognize 9/11, says the executive director of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail.
The Glick Peace Walk is a two block section of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. 9/11 Sunrise Yoga began at 6:15 a.m.
“The Glick Peace Walk is a really unique area of the eight-mile Cultural Trail,” said Karen Haley. “It’s a two-block segment that has ten luminary gardens that recognize ten individuals who made peaceful contributions to the world to improve lives through peaceful ways.”
“We feel like the Peace Walk is a great place in our community for people to reflect and learn about people who’ve made great contributions to the world through peace and 9/11 is just a good day for us to think about peaceful things here in Indianapolis.”
Yoga instructors from some of the top studios donate time to lead Sunrise Yoga. It’s on Walnut Street between Capitol and Illinois Streets.
“Come for as long or as little as you want,” said Haley. “We have support and instructors from some of the best yoga studios in town who are donating their time.”
Yoga instruction is provided by All People Yoga Center, CitYoga School of Yoga and Health, Invoke Studio, Tree House Yoga, Peace Through Yoga and Monumental Yoga. Bike parking is available outside of the Cultural Trail offices at 132 W. Walnut St, adjacent to the Glick Peace Walk.
This is the second year of the 9/11 Sunrise Yoga on the Glick Peace Walk hosted by ICT, Inc. Approximately 75 people participated in the inaugural event in 2014.
There are several other 9/11 events across central Indiana.
Governor Mike Pence will join the Indianapolis Airport Authority for an 8:30 a.m. ceremony to commemorate the 14th anniversary of 9/11, remembering the thousands of people who lost their lives and honoring the heroic acts of all responders. The remembrance will feature an Honor Guard, a musical performance by the Ben Davis High School choir and a displayed artifact of World Trade Center steel recovered from Ground Zero. Governor Pence will offer remarks prior to departing for Japan on his seventh international jobs and economic development mission.
Whitestown will hold a brief ceremony outside by the flagpoles at the Municipal Complex at 8:30 am. There will be a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. (American Airlines Flight #11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center) and 9:03 a.m. (United Airlines Flight #175 crashes into the South Tower of the World Trade Center). The Public Safety Team (WPD and WFD Engine 72) will line up vehicles facing Whitestown Parkway with all lights operational during the ceremony.
There will be a remembrance ceremony in Carmel at 8:46 a.m. at Carmel Fire Headquarters, 2 Civic Square.
The Greenfield Veterans Honor Guard will host a brief ceremony to honor the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack at noon Friday at the Hancock County Veterans Park at the corner of State Road 9 and South Street.
There is a nationwide unity prayer service at 6 p.m. Indianapolis will host a prayer on the steps of the Indiana War Memorial 431 North Meridian St. Indianapolis, Indiana 46204 from 6 to 10 p.m.
There is also a 9/11 ride and ceremony.

This evening is open to anyone on 2-3 wheels, any brand, for the ride, and cars and trucks welcome downtown. Free ride and food, donations accepted for Project 9/11 Indianapolis.

5:00-6:15PM Free food to at least first 200 riders registered or until gone.
6:30PM Short Ceremony to remember why we are there.
7:00PM KSU Police escorted; Riders will be lined up as they arrive and leave in same order.
7:30PM Bikes Arrive on Ohio St. Downtown at Memorial—bikes will park on Ohio St.
Parking lot between Ohio, Senate, New York and Capital will be open after 5:30PM for free parking to all that come in cars and trucks, only 1 block from Memorial.
8:00PM Ceremony begins.
Guest of honor and speaker. LTC Rich Sprunk retired, who was at Pentagon on 9/11/2001.
Candle light ceremony will close the ceremony. Should last about 1 hour total. Many symbolic, Patriotic moments planned for this remembrance of the day that changed all our lives.
This is a free ride, however we will be accepting cash donations to help support Project 9/11 Indianapolis, Inc defray the over $1000.00 in cost for this ceremony. Give what you can, could not be for a better cause. They will be selling T-shirts and coins on Ohio street that commemorate this day in history. All those proceeds also go directly to Project 9/11 Indianapolis, Inc.
