It’s that time of year again when Hexham gets ready to host its Christmas extravaganza.

This year the fun and festivities will be happening on Friday and Saturday, December 9 and 10.

Proving to be Hexham’s most popular shopping event, Beaumont Street and the ancient Market Place will come alive with festive stalls. The magnificent Abbey Cloister will play host to a packed programme of music throughout the weekend.

This year the programme of events kicks off with a relaxed afternoon and evening of Christmas shopping on the Friday from 2pm to 8pm. Visitors can browse a huge range of market stalls, featuring exclusive handmade crafts, gifts, Christmas wreaths and so much more.

The event also supports local charities - find their stalls in the Market Place on Friday evening - and don’t forget many of Hexham’s town centre and unique independent shops will be staying open late, with refreshments including hot chestnuts and mulled wine to keep the mood festive.

On Saturday the Farmers’ Market joins the festivities together with a traditional fairground, along with activities for children, from face painting to real reindeer in the abbey grounds, and of course that all important visit to Santa!

Following the success of the first Hexham Christmas Tree Festival last year, visitors will again find a forest of trees decorated by local businesses and groups in St Aidan’s United Reformed Church. The Christmas Tree Festival is open Friday and Saturday.

The annual Carols in the Park, organised by Churches Together in Hexham, will take place on Sunday, December 11, at the bandstand at 4pm.

The Christmas Market is managed by Hexham Community Partnership and Hexham Town Council.
