CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The Greencastle-Antrim girls and Waynesboro boys basketball teams won the titles at the Franklin County Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday night, defeating host Chambersburg in both championship games.

The Blue Devils claimed the girls title with a 26-22 win against the Trojans.

Chambersburg remained on the Blue Devils’ tails for the majority of the game. But the Trojans weren't able to overcome Greencastle without leading scorer Robyn Stepler, who injured her knee in the Trojans’ 59-55 double-overtime win over James Buchanan on Friday night.

The Blue Devils were led by tournament MVP Lydia Crist, who finished with nine points. They also got seven points from Madison Sweitzer, who earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

“Well, honestly, we saw Robyn get hurt last night and she’s a good player, but she wasn’t there,” Greencastle coach Mike Rhine said. “I’m sorry for them because you want to win at full strength, but you play who you play. We’ve got a lot to work on, but it was a very nice weekend and I’m glad about the way it turned out. I love those girls, it's a fun team and I’m very proud.”

Also making the all-tournament team were Chambersburg’s Stepler and Ashley Adams, along with James Buchanan’s Cass Martin and Waynesboro’s Tatianna Badger.

In the boys final, behind a strong performance by tournament MVP Jay Alvarez, Waynesboro turned back Chambersburg 42-39.

The Indians held the Trojans off for most of the game, with Chambersburg rallying multiple times to bring the deficit within a point in the closing minutes. The Trojans had a decent look at a game-tying 3-pointer in the final seconds, but it didn't go down.

“Our guys battled all night and felt like we were in control of the game,” Indians coach Tom Hoffman said. “And then at the end we lost our poise a little bit, but they kept battling and took care of the ball. What a great win for our program. Hopefully we prove that this can be a springboard to some special things if we can keep our focus and keep battling.”

Alvarez finished with a game-high 14 points, while teammate Cole Rhyne earned a spot on the all-tournament team with 11 points.

Chambersburg's all-tournament selections included Ty Holsopple, who finished with a team-high 12 points, and Seth Brouse.

Jason Freeman made the all-tourney team for Greencastle.

In Saturday's consolation games, the James Buchanan girls defeated Waynesboro 40-26, and the Greencastle boys defeated James Buchanan 37-34.
