Walk-off: Alabama beats Georgia in OT for national title
Source: AP
ATLANTA (AP) To add another championship to the greatest dynasty college football has ever seen, Alabama turned to its quarterback of the future, and Tua Tagovailoa proved that his time is now.
The freshman quarterback, who had played mostly mop-up duty this season, came off the bench to spark a comeback and threw a 41-yard touchdown to DeVonta Smith that gave No. 4 Alabama a 26-23 overtime victory against No. 3 Georgia on Monday night for the College Football Playoff national championship.
Tagovailoa entered the game at halftime, replacing a struggling Jalen Hurts, and threw three touchdown passes to give the Crimson Tide its fifth national championship since 2009 under coach Nick Saban.
"He just stepped in and did his thing," Hurts said. "He's built for stuff like this. I'm so happy for him." The Tide might have a quarterback controversy ahead of them, but first Alabama will celebrate another national title.

Obligatory other story about the President, also from the AP: Trump gets a national anthem moment at football title game
"a few words" - rather generous
He gets enough media time anyway! Did Obama or Biden ever go to the CFP when they were in office?

(19,186 posts)on Air Farce One for the Great Stable Genius Leader - complete with Secret Service detail and how many family members? - all on the taxpayer's dime. Then back to Washington (finally) where he might actually get a little work done, in between his 4-8 hours a day of FUX News viewing, and his numerous meals ala McDonalds, and in bed by 6:30 PM for yet more TV viewing and an "early evening" cheeseburger. Where does he find the time? Ahhhh....but we're entering prime 'twitter' time now, so be ready for more directives via twitter from the Great Stable Genius Leader.
Jebus, I wish we had a REAL President again!
Congratulations to the Crimson Tide on yet another national championship. I wonder what Alabama's graduation rate is for their football teams?

(50,528 posts)According to https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges/the-university-of-alabama/academic-life/graduation-and-retention/,
Its on-time graduation rate is 41.3 percent. Its overall graduation rate is 67.1 percent.
Of the 32.9 percent that don't graduate on time, about two-thirds of them transfer to other schools, and a third either drop out or are still enrolled.
They're graduating football players at a higher rate than the general student body.

(17,884 posts)"Carolina" type classes or created whole programs of study tailored to athletes? ie. you pass if you have a pulse. There's more than a few ways to work the academic system. And that's not counting the well funded, well staffed operations, in every major athletic department, who's sole purpose is to keep athletes academically eligible. I wonder what the overall graduation rate would be if the average student had that kind of money and attention focused on their academic progress.

(19,186 posts)of course Alabama would be nothing if it wasn't for their football program. It generates so much money it should be a crime (in many cases, it most likely is). Athletes should be paid at least a generous stipend, if not some other sort of remuneration. Few value the free education they're receiving. It's just a stepping stone to the NFL, and College Athletics has gamed the system so the athletes almost have to attend College in order to make that jump to the NFL. Some needy scholar who might make an impact on the world is passed by for some lummox who can knock down another lummox in record time. Yeah, the College system is totally fair.
